Ditch sustainable products. We need sustainable lifestyle systems.
What’s interesting to me but may be old news to some of you is the proliferation of the “collaborative consumption” economy or the “access” economy. We started with Zipcar and Airbnb and there’s even a venture fund called Collaborative Fund to support ventures that tackle the entrepreneurship of sharing.
The Atlantic also did an article on how we need to move away from becoming dependent on consumption to drive the economy. Didn’t greed (monetary consumption) destroy our economy in the first place?
We don’t need more stuff. We need to design how we could use our stuff better and longer. We need to learn how everything is connected even though sometimes we can’t see the connection. A one-off solution is ironically unsustainable.
